So I’ve got this friend, David Zemens in Michigan. A few weeks ago he told me about a buddy of his that runs a really cool business.
Then a few days ago the black beauty pictured above arrived on my front door. David had reworked the thing (with a little help on the wiring from Dennis at Vintage Rotary Phones) now I’ve got a beautiful vintage Western Electric telephone on my desk.
I feel like Dashiell Hammett sitting here now. I need a case to solve… I need a Los Angeles hotel room… I need a gin and tonic… I’m going to write a mystery…
Only one problem. As some of you know, I traded in my land line a couple of months ago for a cell phone.
But its all right David, this baby is going to be the first machine installed in my downtown 23rd floor office.

Thanks for the kind words, Robert. You really have to hear that Western Electric phone ring to get the full effect of it!
Will your 23rd floor office be a corner office with floor-to-ceiling windows?
iT is a beautiful phone.
Vintage fans and desk lamps are lovely, too.
Robert, I know you’re going to love your vintage rotary phone. Dave put TLC into making it nice for you. Thanks for the mention of my site. I really love spreading the word about these old phones! Thanks for helping me do that!

I used to have an office like that… All kinds of weird little offices in the building too, my favorite was the one marked “Super Time Travel.”
David - I can’t wait to hear it man, and yes, floor-to-ceiling. Name on the smoked glass door. Phone on the desk. Sap in the hip pocket.
Yes. Yes. Yes.
Jeck - I knew you were a luddite at heart… knew it.
Dennis - You’re welcome man, I love your site and these old machines. Simple. Beautiful. Efficient. Deadly.
Good luck with it.
Candice - Did you pack your little HK?
It has seen that office, but not quite in such a glamorous fashion. Cleaned it there a few times — the building though, it closed about eight months after The Thing, and I no longer work for who I used to anyway.
