I Cannot Honor Her Enough

I cannot honor her enough

But I will try
with this poem

She meets
my depression
with hope

She devastates
my fear
with faith

She murders
my indifference
with love

She turns
my harshness
with grace

She softens
my judgements
with mercy

She dismisses
my selfishness
with sacrifice

She mocks
my pride
with humility

She is mysterious

Stunning

Dangerous

Wild

I cannot honor her enough

But I will try
with this poem

Stunning. That describes this work as well. It makes me want to meet her.

I like it. Simple, upturned and evocative.

Especially:

“she devastates
my fear
with faith”

Lovely poem, man!

Hmmm… this sounds a lot like a poem I’ve been trying to write.

I’ve only got the opening so far:

She beats me
with a stick
for fun

Kidding man… beautiful stuff.

Liz - I think you two would get along just fine… maybe we’ll make it out there sometime. For that to happen, I’ll have to sell this poem to Hallmark…

AndrewE - Yeah, my lack of faith is embarrasing. Might be more of a guy problem, you know, control or lack of it.

Jeck - You’re “free prize inside” is on the way man! I forgot to mail them out on friday… but don’t get too fired up, not going to change your life or anything ;)

Brian - If you write it, they will come. The key lies in the Magnetic Headline.

Awww.

Now that is verse in the service of goodness.

I, too, am touched by the literary matching of ‘fear’ and ‘faith.’ Fear, something that we own and love, needs an Outside Antidote if it will ever be devastated. Speaking for myself, I find tremendous comfort in the familiarity of fear; how I nurture him! Like big flat DC skater-soles, an Outside Antidote must come and smash the damned ant.

The contrast created between all the “opposites”, faith - fear, indifference -love, judgement - mercy, etc. is very impactful (is that a word?). They are so “simple” yet are incredably powerful. Nice work!

Here’s a little impromptu parody:
_________________________

I cannot slander her enough

But I will try
with this poem…

She crushes my enthusiasm
with her skepticism

She inhibits my freedom
with her need for “family time”

She wastes my time
with her hair and makeup

She undermines my manliness
with a mud mask from a box

She cripples me financially
with her penchant for fashion

But she’s fun

and pretty

and warm

and soft.

And I’ll love her
until she buries me.

Robert Bruce 07.25.06 at 3:31 pm

Comm - I can only hope ;)

She deserves much more than these lines on a screen.

Jones - Thanks for coming around… can’t wait till you get to PDX my friend.

Yeah, as much as I want to rely on myself or her or anything but, the Outside Antidote is my only hope.

And, for the record, I prefer Vans (old SoCal boy talking here)…

Kam - Don’t know about anyone else, but I’ll take impactful as a word… it has impact (ugh). And without simplicty I’d be lost. Or at least less impactful.

btw, how’s the plans for my UK reading tour coming?

Tom - You kill me with this stuff. If you keep it up, I’m going to rename this place knifeguntom.

That last line. A real burner…

Don’t agree with Heraclitean Fire’s opinioins. Both blogs that are mentioned are interesting.
