I found out recently that the Italian side of my family used to live about six blocks from where I just moved in the city. We have my great-great grandmother’s tickets from coming over from Sicily in 1912.
I’ve only recently learned some of the stories of that part of the family, actually. The whole clan moved out to cajun country in the 50s or so, which is where I always visit. I never spent much time in this area of the city growing up, other than the obligatory trips to the zoo.
