You’ve spent much of your life this week waiting
You wait in line for coffee
You wait in line at the Oregon State Employment Office
You wait for the call from your lover
You wait for a kind word from your friend
You wait for “Lost” to start
You wait to hear the diagnosis
You wait for the new one from Deschutes Brewery
You wait for the check to arrive
You wait for inspiration, for fire to arrive
You wait for the business deal to, please, just finalize
You wait for the Portland Rescue Mission to open for the night
You wait for the Dogwood tree to bloom
You wait for a time when things will make sense
You’ve spent much of your life this week waiting
And if you live to see
the end of it
You’ll spend much of the next
doing the same
This is no
accident
It’s a human song
One that we’ve been singing
for a very long time
Singing to an
Audience
that
surely
hears
and will
surely
answer
and has
surely
put a
violent
end to
all
our
waiting

Rebecca has quite the eye for color and arrangement. I assume that is her sweatered arm in the photo. And, you have quite the eye for this life as it relates to the next. Is there not a sense in which all of this life is lived in anticipation (waiting) for the next? Fully present, but waiting nonetheless.

I’m happy to see that my dahlias are growing. They didn’t do much last year. Why? No one had an answer.
I don’t have the fingers and toes to count the times I’m fully not present. I have my moments though, and I cherish those.
9 months is quite a wait–let me tell you without actually coming out and saying it yet.
and please, don’t you say it outloud yet, either.
I appreciate it.
Things take time. I bet there is a metaphysician who has come up with an equation.
The flowers are beautiful. That’s some of the best flower arranging I’ve seen.

Ah, Robert, this is a nice one.
Makes me feel. Makes me feel real.
Just the words I needed to read this late Friday evening while packing.
