FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS…

→ This Is Knife Gun Pen…

Robert Bruce lives in the rain and fog of Portland, Ore. He throws a poem around the world every Monday morning from a small red house with the assistance of a broadband line and a wicked cup of black coffee. Coram Deo.

→ What does Knife Gun Pen mean?

Three objects that I like and use. All three are simple, beautiful, efficient and deadly…

→ This isn’t poetry, how can you call this poetry?

You may be correct about this. Regardless, for the moment, I run this place and will call these little words whatever pleases me. Next week they may be called Onions. We’ll see.

→ Have you published any books?

Two. One out of print (if you own a copy, hang on to it, you may be able to get rid of it for a fiver in 20 years). You can always download them (except for that first one) here.

→ Is Robert Bruce your real name?

Yes.

→ Um, aren’t poetry readings extremely lame?

Yes. Mostly. Which is why I call mine “Talking Shows”. It is a deliberate attempt to manipulate you into buying a ticket (which, in turn, pays my rent).

I don’t do many, but upcoming Live Talking Show dates are always posted here.

→ What’s with the internet, why don’t you submit to poetry journals like a good little poet?

So much of it is inefficient and inbred.

I like the action of the internet. I like that anyone with a connection can get here, read my stuff and even have their say.

The idea of submitting a poem to a lit journal with less than half the weekly readership of this site just doesn’t appeal to me. The cost/benefit doesn’t shake out.

The best part of this deal are the readers. Techies and businessmen, Christians and Pagans, artists and plumbers, writers and roofers. I’m grateful for each one of them.

And they could care less whether or not I spent the summer at Bread Loaf
